Q) If you could partner up with any artist for a collaboration on a Christmas song, who would you choose?

Q) What is your favourite beverage for a holiday party?

Kris) Red Wine for sure…but there’s a traditional family Martini that we make every year only at Christmas that I always look forward to!

Country Music’s Sexiest Men, 2017

The internet is buzzing with rumours that Blake Shelton will be named People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2017.

We aren’t here to tell you that they made the wrong choice, but we are here to put a spotlight on some of the other sexy men in country music.

In the last couple of years we’ve had the chance to see these men perform on stage, and as great as they are with the microphone in their hands, they elicit a whole lot of cheers for their look up there on stage.

Have a look at our list and pics of Blake Shelton and our 10 more sexy country music men, and leave a comment to tell us who you think is tops OR who you think we missed.

Blake Shelton

Blake Shelton-Country Thunder 2017 Blake Shelton is one of the biggest stars in the world today. Between his regular appearances at the top of the country music charts and his seat in the spinning chair on The Voice, he’s everywhere. And as the 41 year old Oklahoman adds more salt and pepper to his look, the sexier he seems to get.

Luke Bryan

Boots and Hearts 2017 - Luke Bryan What do we need to say to share the point that Luke Bryan is sexy?! The dude has women pawing at him so much he’s had to make rules about it. When he rotates his hips, it turns into gifs. This Georgia daddy has got to be on every ‘sexy men in country music’ list.

Brett Eldredge

Boots and Hearts 2017 - Brett Eldredge Boots and Hearts 2017 - Brett EldredgeThis rising star is smooth as silk and dapper as hell. Whether he’s on stage with a couple buttons undone, or he’s in a tux on the way to an awards show, he shines. The eyes, the smile, the voice, and the laugh… they add up for Brett Eldredge.

Dallas Smith

Dallas Smith CNE 2015Dallas Smith-Country Thunder 2017This Canadian country music rockstar has it all going for him. Give him some ripped jeans, roll up the sleeves to see the ink, and give him a little stubble of a beard if you’re into that sort of thing. Dallas Smith is legit.

Dylan Scott

Dylan Scott BH5 Boots and Hearts 2016 Dylan Scott BH5 Boots and Hearts 2016This country boy has muscles to spare, looking like he could lift a truck if he wanted to. And Dylan Scott‘s eyes – staring right to your soul. Dang it, he’s got Mmm, Mmm, Mmm all wrapped up.

Mark Wystrach

Boots and Hearts 2017 - Midland Boots and Hearts 2017 - MidlandAs the lead man of Midland, Mark Wystrach is turning heads. If you didn’t already know, you could probably also guess that he’s had a career as a model. He’s chiseled and has the look and we could probably forgive him if he had a Drinkin’ Problem.

Chad Brownlee

Chad Brownlee - CNE 2017 Boots and Hearts 2017 - Chad BrownleeAnother good Canadian boy, this hockey player turned country star has it in spades. Chad Brownlee knows how to work the stage, the ladies scream for him every time we see him, and when he sings sweetly, it’s everything you dream about.

Chris Lane

Chris Lane-Trackside_Fest Chris Lane Sugar BeachChris Lane is a 33 year old from North Carolina, sharing a laid back cool that drips with sexy. And with his twin brother Cory on the drums, it’s double trouble when this country boy takes the stage in front of a crowd.

Sam Hunt

Sam Hunt BH5 Boots and Hearts 2016 Sam. Hunt. This quarterback turned country superstar drives women wild, and put tears in their eyes when he proposed to his fiancée. On award show carpets and on stage, Sam Hunt is sexy as hell.

Jake Owen

Andrew Hyatt

Texoma Shore: Blake Shelton Album Review

Blake Shelton is right on schedule with the release of 11 new songs on his new album, Texoma Shore. It’s a collection of very Blake tracks, that country music fans have been waiting for.

We aren’t kidding about Shelton being right on schedule. If you look at the releases of his last 6 albums, you can look at approximately a year and a half between records. And here we are in November 2017 with the follow-up to the May 2016 release of If I’m Honest.

The new album comes in at just under 40 minutes of music, and while we do wish that number was a little higher, it’s hard to complain about an 11 song album in an era of EPs.

Blake Shelton’s signature mix of sweet and smart-ass is available throughout the album. His fans love it. It fits the big Oklahoman’s personality, and since we’ve gotten used to both sides of him and his music over the last 15+ years, it’s both expected and reassuring to hear it done and done well on Texoma Shore.

The lead single, I’ll Name The Dogs, was released on September 8, giving it a two month lead into the record, and Canadian country fans got a treat when Blake performed the track on the CBC broadcast of the Canadian Country Music Association Awards on Sunday, September 10.

We don’t know what the radio single plan is coming up for Shelton from this album, but if the early release of Turnin’ Me On and I Lived It are teases that they’re headed in one of those two directions, I’d be okay with that.

Note: The first time I listened to Turnin’ Me On I had a real Eagles feel hittin’ me. And that’s not a bad thing. Who knows, maybe I just have a craving for the Eagles, but I think there’s something there.

We’re a little disappointed that Blake Shelton’s Country Music Freaks Tour isn’t going to be bringing Brett Eldredge, Carly Pearce, and Trace Adkins north of the border to play these new songs… but here’s hoping it’s not too long before the five time winning coach of The Voice brings his stage show back to Canada.

For now, all fans can kick back, pour a beverage of their choice and hit play on Texoma Shore. From I’ll Name The Dogs off the top to I Lived It at the end of the tracklist, Shelton and his team at Warner have put together another collection on songs that fit him well, will work for country fans, and will make for some fun additions to the live show.

Leave a comment to tell us which song from Texoma Shore is your favourite!

I don’t know about you, but I am extremely excited to have male vocalist of the year & song of the year winner Thomas Rhett as one of the headliners! I am very thrilled to see what he has in store for everyone. We’re also lucky to have critically acclaimed singer and songwriter Brad Paisley who has won numerous awards in his career and is constantly taking over the charts. We also can’t forget about the hilarious Blake Shelton… five-time male vocalist of the year, Grammy nominee and one of my favourite judges on this season of The Voice.

Don’t worry we didn’t forget about the other remarkable artists taking over the stages at this years festival! I am looking forward to experiencing the diversity all these artists will bring; from heart filled songs to heart breaks, celebrating the weekend, grabbing a beer with your friends, and growing up in a small town – this festival will have all of your country needs checked off.

The Weight Of These Wings: Miranda Lambert Album Review

In a country music landscape currently being filled with four song EPs and 10 song albums, Miranda Lambert just said fuck it and released a 24 track double album that may well define her career. But not in the way that a lot of radio fans and listeners were expecting.

The Weight Of These Wings is Lambert’s seventh studio album (including her self-released/ self-titled 2001 debut), and follows five consecutive platinum records that all went to #1. It comes as Lambert holds a seven year run as the Academy of Country Music’s Female Vocalist of the Year Award. And it comes less than a year and a half after her divorce from ex-husband Blake Shelton.

A single listen to this beefy double album isn’t enough to get a feel for what it truly offers. But it is was enough to come up with these thoughts…

1) This album feels personal. And not just in a “these are the pages of my diary, laid open for you to read” kind of way.

2) This album feels personal in a defiant way. In a “you wanted to know what the last two years of my life have felt like, here you fucking go” kind of way.

3) It really doesn’t feel like this record was written, recorded, or released for radio. Yes, Vice went to #2 on the singles chart, and We Should Be Friends has been released as the second single. But overall, from 24 tracks, it doesn’t shout RADIO HIT to me.

4) This album should clean up in award season.

From the start of disc one, Miranda Lambert has released a record that shows us more of her than I ever expected to see. On previous records we’d had glimpses of emotion and heartbreak, but The Weight Of These Wings drips with it. It’s a super-saturation that is unavoidable and connects in ways that most singers would have to think long and hard about.

In fact, most people don’t have it in them to share the things that Miranda Lambert has shared with their own best friends.

Songs like You Wouldn’t Know Me, Tin Man, and Six Degrees Of Separation are more than we should have expected – even if we wanted it.

And while it’s easy to listen to Vice on repeat, the emotional content and connection that The Weight Of These Wings provides can make it hard to listen to all 24 tracks on repeat if you are really listening. Even if you want to.

To this point, as I’m writing this post, I’ve listened to the full album four times in less than 24 hours. And I will listen to it again… because I want to.

I highly suggest that you listen to it too. Take the time to listen to the stories she’s telling. Feel the vulnerability and defiance and artistry that comes through the speakers. And when you’re done, I would invite you to sit in silence and think about everything that you’ve just heard.

It might not be easy. Especially if you find any way to connect to any piece of the material. But trust me, if you really want to get it, to do more than just enjoy the sounds, it’s worth it.

This album may not have been written for radio. But it was written for country music fans. Do yourself a favour and hit play to listen to it now. And when the music hits you in the heart or the gut or that part of your brain that triggers memories and feelings, leave a comment to tell us what you think of what Miranda Lambert has done with The Weight Of These Wings.

Bush Party: Dean Brody at Boots & Hearts 2016!

If Canadians have a fault, it may be that we don’t think highly enough of ourselves when it comes to competing with big U.S. stars… but on Saturday evening, as the sun got ready to set in the west and the crowd poured in to the Boots and Hearts main stage area, it was clear that we had every right to think highly of Dean Brody and the show he was putting on!

Dean came out to the stage in his best Canadian plaid, and as that late day crowd came down the hill he started the set with Bounty and a big cheer. And the cheers really didn’t let up… throughout the set, as people sang and danced and showed love to one of their own, the party found its legs and rolled forward right into Blake Shelton’s set to headline the night.

Dean Brody BH5-4760

Note: We should have seen this one coming… Alan Doyle (who put on a great set earlier in the day) popped out on stage to sing It’s Friday with Dean and the crowd went nuts. The duet is one the fans don’t get to see live very often, and the #BH5 loved it!

In 2012 Dean was a surprise guest at the 1st edition of Boots & Hearts, then in 2013 he played a full set on the main stage ahead of Jason Aldean… but this year was bigger, it was louder, there were more fans, there were more songs, and there was more love thrown back to Dean on stage than we’ve ever had the chance to see live before.

Dean Brody BH5-4820This dude is funny and engaging, even running through the empty photo pit to sing and exchange high fives with fans as he wrapped things up with fan favourite Canadian Girls. It should be no wonder at all that he’s nominated for the 2016 Canadian Country Music Awards’ Fans’ Choice Award.

Check out the set list, our pics and a little video treat – and be sure to see Dean Brody when he comes to a venue near you. The sooner the better!

Cavendish Beach Music Festival 2016 Q&A with Petric, Cold Creek County and Bobby Wills

With the Canada Day long weekend behind we’re looking forward to next weekend and Cavendish Beach Music Festival!

July 8th, 9th and 10th we’re going to see some of the biggest names in country music including The Band Perry, Kenny Chesney and Blake Shelton. CBMF is bringing us 36 major acts over the three days and that doesn’t include the Emerging Artists who will be rocking the RBC Emerging Artist stage all weekend.

On top of the headliners, you’ll see The Road Hammer, Tebey, Dean Brody, Bobby Wills, Meghan Patrick, Washboard Union, River Town Saints, Petric, and Cold Creek County.

We’re getting into the meat of the summer music festival and we wanted to know what some of our favourite artists are thinking. We’ve asked Petric, Cold Creek County, and Bobby Wills, three questions about festival season, CCC’s Trevor MacLeod and Petric brother, Jason answered for us.

Here we go!

Q. In 50 words or less, is there one thing you’re most looking forward to about playing Cavendish Beach Music Festival?

Petric Cavendish Social 300Petric: We’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this festival. We’ve heard the music fans out there are the best, so that gets us really excited!

Cold Creek County:
One thing we are looking forward to about playing Cavendish is the amazing vibe! Sharing the stage with The Band Perry, The Road Hammers, Black Jack Billy, The Washboard Union and Olivia Lane. That mixed with an awesome turnout of music fans, makes the experience one of a million.

Bobby Wills: The East Coast is always special and I expect Cavendish to take that to the next level! All the musicians and artists I have spoken to about the event talk so highly of the whole event! I can’t wait.

Cold Creek County Social Media 300Q. Who are you most excited to see?

Neither of us have ever seen Blake Shelton, so that will be a pretty cool experience!

Cold Creek County:
The Band Perry, their show is unbelievable.

Bobby Wills: I have never seen Kenny Chesney and hear he is one of the best in the business.

Q. What’s your favourite thing about festival season?

Bobby Wills CavendishPetric: The vibe at a country music festival is one of a kind. Great music—and hopefully great weather—it always ends up being a lot of fun! We’ve dreamed of getting to play at these shows for years. It’s really cool to now get this opportunity.

Cold Creek County:
All the people having a good time, and how they project their energy outward to the music.

Bobby Wills: The fans! The atmosphere and fan interaction at festivals is totally a unique experience.  Nothing like it!

Top 5 Boots & Hearts 2016 Karaoke Songs!

It’s no secret that I love to sing karaoke with my friends and whatever strangers show up at the bar. It’s also no secret that I have a soft spot for country music karaoke… I’ve sung a lot of it over the years. So, I thought I’d share my pics for the Top 5 karaoke songs by Boots & Hearts 2016 artists.

Ready? Let’s go!

Tim McGraw – Live Like You Were Dying

I’ve sung a lot of Tim McGraw at karaoke over the last 15 years or so… but this really wasn’t a difficult choice to make. Live Like You Were Dying is a huge song full of emotion – and if you can hold that note at the end of the song (you know the one) then you can go back to your chair and your beer feeling like you’ve done it some justice!

Blake Shelton – Playboys Of The Southwestern World

There are some great Blake Shelton songs out there to sing, but this one has a special place in my heart. One of my best friend in Ottawa and I used to take turns singing this song and dedicating it to each other. I won’t tell you why, but it always made us smile. If you know it, sing along!

Dierks Bentley – What Was I Thinkin’

Yes, this song came out 2003… but it’s still my go to Dierks song when I’m in the mood. There’s just something about the energy and story and a little white tank top that makes me want to hold a beer in one hand and the microphone in the other. Also, on some level we can all relate to what Dierks is going through in this song!

Sam Hunt – Take Your Time

It’s new, and it’s not traditional, and I love it. When I first sang Take Your Time at karaoke there were only 3 people in the bar that knew the song… including me. But now that Sam has a little more love outside of the country radio community there are more and more heads nodding and people singing along to the parts they know!

Cam – Burning House

Now, I need to admit that I haven’t sung this at karaoke yet, but I really really really want to. Burning House is a huge song that drips with emotion and I sing it in the shower all the time. Now I just need to find the right mood and the right crowd to bust it out when my turn comes up at my local karaoke show!

Bonus: Diamond Rio – Meet In The Middle

I am so excited for Diamond Rio to come to Boots & Hearts 2016 that I couldn’t help but find a way to include them in this post. I grew up listening to Meet In The Middle on Country 105 in Peterborough, and I have taken a turn to sing it at karaoke before. It’s a sweet song and it’s a modern classic as far as I’m concerned!

Now I want to know what your go to country karaoke songs are – leave a comment here or on Facebook to tell me – and maybe I’ll try them too!

Boots and Hearts 2016 Playlist

We’ve put together our Boots and Hearts 2016 Spotify playlist for your listening pleasure.

With over thirty artists on the #BH5 lineup (we’ve included the emerging artists who were on Spotify), we’ve got you covered for just over six hours!

There are a couple of artists who, are not on Spotify, we’ve listed them separately and we’re sure you’re going to like them, so make sure you scroll through the post.

*EDIT* Johnson Crook’s first single, Minnedosa  is now up on Spotify. We’ve updated our playlist to include it!

If you haven’t got your tickets yet, here’s the link and we’ll see you there!

Did we miss your favourite track? Let us know and we’ll add it!

Boots & Hearts 2016 Daily Lineup Announcement!

They’re Here!!!

After months of waiting, weeks of speculation, and more patience than we generally have, the Boots & Hearts 2016 daily lineups have been announced.

We don’t have stage assignments or set times yet, but we promise we will share them with you as soon as we do.

For now we can start planning our must-sees for each day of B&H year 5… and dreaming about the set lists we hope we’ll hear.

Get ready, August is coming!

Boots and Hearts 2016 Thursday Kickoff PartyThursday, August 4, 2016

★ Jake Owen
★ Emerson Drive
★ Tebey
★ Meghan Patrick
★ Johnson Crook

Remember, this is a short day, 1 stage event for the Coors Banquet Kick Off Party, so don’t be concerned about the shorter list of artists here.

Jake Owen is a great name to headline this party, he’s a summer lovin’, beachin’, bare footin’, good time waiting to happen – and with support from 4 Canadian acts we really dig, it’s shaping up to be a good night!

Boots and Hearts 2016 Friday LineupFriday, August 5, 2016

★ Dierks Bentley
★ Sam Hunt
★ Cam
★ Tim Hicks
★ Chase Bryant
★ Autumn Hill
★ The Dungarees
★ The Reklaws
★ David James
★ Cory Marquardt
★ Lindsay Broughton
★ Brea Lawrenson

Man, what a way to spend a Friday in August!

Bentley showed us how awesome he was on the main stage in Bowmanville, Sam Hunt was been on fire since he played in 2014, and Cam is one the most anticipated sets of the weekend for sure. Plus, we LOVE the Canadian acts getting some time and know that Tim Hicks, Autumn Hill, The Reklaws, David James, Cory Marquardt, Lindsay Broughton, and Brea Lawrenson will make us all proud!

Boots and Hearts 2016 Saturday LineupSaturday, August 6, 2016

★ Blake Shelton
★ Dean Brody
★ Aaron Pritchett
★ Alan Doyle & The Gypsies
★ Raquel Cole
★ Madeline Merlo
★ Jojo Mason
★ Macarthur Clark
★ SiriusXM Emerging Artist Showcase

Blake! What more do you need?

But really, with Dean Brody as support, clearly a list of artists that aren’t to be messed with, this is going to be a really fun day of country music.

And don’t sleep in because the Emerging Artist Showcase is a perfect place to scout new talent. Just look at Tim Hicks, Tebey, Wes Mack, Runaway Angel, Trinity Bradshaw, Johnson Crook, Eric Ethridge, and the James Barker Band as some of the examples we’ve seen in the last few years!

Boots and Hearts 2016 Sunday LineupSunday, August 7, 2016

★ Tim McGraw
★ Chase Rice
★ Diamond Rio
★ Jason Blaine
★ Dylan Scott
★ Lindsay Ell
★ River Town Saints
★ Jason Benoit
★ Jordan McIntosh
★ James Barker Band
★ Kaitlin Kozell

It’s the last day of the festival, but don’t be sad. Sunday is going to rock!

Tim McGraw returns after his year 1 headlining performance at Boots & Hearts, and it’s a set we will not miss. Add Chase Rice, Diamond Rio (bucket list!), Dylan Scott (emerging star), and even more awesome Canadian talent with Jason Blaine, Lindsay Ell, River Town Saints, Jason Benoit, Jordan McIntosh, James Barker Band, and Kaitlin Kozell and we promise you will wish this festival had a Monday night because you won’t want the music to stop!
