2017 Canadian National Exhibition Northern Comfort Saloon Lineup and Schedule

If you like cold drink and hot country music, the Northern Comfort Saloon at the Canadian National Exhibition should be on your to do list this summer!

We’ve been checking out the Northern Comfort Saloon since year one in 2014, and every year there’s a pretty fantastic selection of country music to sing, drink, and dance to. In fact, just last year The Washboard Union took their turn for six days, and then won Rising Star and Roots Artist of the Year at the 2016 Canadian Country Music Awards… so ya, these are talented artists.

The 2017 lineup has some of our favourite up-and-coming artists, including Northern Comfort Saloon returnees, Cory Marquardt, Kelly Prescott, and Buck Twenty – and artists with new releases in 2017 including Johnson Crook and Andrew Hyatt.

We’ve put together the full schedule with dates and times, so you know which days to come see some of your emerging country music favourites on stage, playing originals, covers, and having a party.

Mark your calendar, and then use the poll and/or leave a comment to tell us who you’re most excited to see at this year’s CNE country bar stage!

2017 Canadian National Exhibition: Northern Comfort Saloon Announcement

This week the Canadian National Exhibition announced its first round of Northern Comfort Saloon performers. Now don’t panic, we haven’t even started summer yet but it is nice to be able to look forward to some of our favourite country artists playing right here in our backyard at The Ex.

The Northern Comfort Saloon is one of our favourite spots to take a load off when we’re checking out The CNE. We love its sweet country saloon atmosphere, we love the mechanical bull, we love saloon themed food and drinks and if you haven’t seen the stage, you’re in for a treat.

Livy Jeanne CNE 2015 Northern Comfort Saloon
Livy Jeanne CNE 2015 Northern Comfort Saloon

We’ve seen some amazing acts on the NCS Stage over the years including Livy Jeanne, Leah Daniels, Marshall Dane, The Washboard Union and Cory Marquardt and this year’s lineup including Marquardt is going to be great.

One of our favourite things about sets at the Northern Comfort Saloon, they’re long! This means you’ll get a chance to hear all of your favourites, probably hear some great covers and maybe even get a chance to say hello to your favourite performers.

2017 Canadian National Exhibition, Northern Comfort Saloon Lineup (so far)

Buck Twenty – August 18 – 20 – 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Nominated this year for the CMAO’s Rising Star award, this is the second year in a row for Mike Ure & Aidan Johnson-Bujold. The energetic singer/songwriter duo will have their self-titled 2015 debut EP and their 2016 Single Here’s to the Nights to draw songs from and we’re hoping they’ll play some new songs and some great covers for us too!

Johnson Crook – August 21, 22 & 23 – 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM

These guys are everywhere right now and we’re thrilled that they’ll be playing the CNE this year. By the time Noel Johnson, Jared Craig, Nathan and Trevor Crook hit the Northern Saloon stage, they’ll have a full album to play for y’all. These boys will have no trouble filling their timeslot and you should get ready to fill up the amazing dance floor that the Saloon offers up.

Cory Marquardt – August 24 to 26 – 7:30 PM – 11:00 PM

The North Bay hometown boy should look very comfortable up on the Northern Saloon stage. He put on a hell of a show last year and he’s been honing his musical chops all year long keeping busy with tons of live shows. Last year we got to hear from his album This Man as well as some great covers including Vince Gill, Merle Haggard, Eric Church, Keith Urban, Eli Young Band and Jason Aldean. Is there anything Cory can’t sing?

Elyse Saunders – August 30 & 31 – 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM

The Toronto-based alt-country singer/songwriter’s Facebook profile describes her sound as “Soulful, edgy and inspiring” and we couldn’t agree more. Elyse has been putting out music since her self-titled album in 2008 and we’re hoping to hear songs from both albums and of course, we want to hear her new single Rise.

There are two sets a day, an early set from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm and a late set from 7:30 – 11:00 pm. Last year there were seven performers in all, over the duration of the fair, that leaves three spots open. So, who else do you think should play the Northern Comfort Saloon in 2017?

2016 Canadian National Exhibition: Northern Comfort Saloon Schedule & Set Times

Ever year, as summer winds down and we prepare for fall, we make our way to Exhibition Station and the Canadian National Exhibition… and when we’re there we’re sure to stop in at the Northern Comfort Saloon.

As part of Toronto’s growing country music landscape, the Saloon brings some great emerging talent to the city and gives artists a chance to perform for fans as the walk the aisles of the fair, or sit down to enjoy a cold drink and grab a bite to eat.

Note: There’s lots of room to dance in front of the stage, so if you know how to line dance or two-step, you’re more than welcome to get up on your feet and show everyone what you’ve got!

Cory-Marquardt-CNE-2015 Northen Comfort SaloonIn the past we’ve had a chance to watch and catch up with Leah Daniels, Cory Marquardt, Livy Jeanne, Marshall Dane, and more at the Northern Comfort Saloon stage, and we’re sure that this year’s lineup (including Dane) is going to be ready to continue that tradition.

Over the last few years it’s been clear to see that Ontario is becoming a country music hotbed. Artists like Tim Hicks, Tebey, Small Town Pistols, Autumn Hill, and Kira Isabella have lit up country radio + stages all over the province, and across Canada… and it’s been awesome to watch.

2016 looks like it’s going to be another big year, and today we’re happy to help announce the Country Music Association of Ontario award nominees. All of the CMAO Awards categories are packed with talent, which makes things both exciting and difficult.

As voting members of the CMAO we won’t be sharing any predictions or votes in this post, but we can tell you that these categories are so hard to choose winners in that we have not agreed on more than a couple of our choices. Really, it’s not easy!

Welcome to the Country Music Youth Movement

Music, like all things in life, goes through phases. We embrace the things and people we love and hold onto them for years at a time, sometimes overlooking what and who comes next because of our tunnel vision. But right now we are knee deep in a country music youth movement that is turning over the landscape and offering up new music to the masses.

And for anyone still holding onto that tunnel vision of the music and musicians they’ve been in love with… it’s time to start looking around at what’s on the horizon.

In Canada alone we could book an entire emerging artists festival with the talent that is piling up with major labels and on the indie circuit. Their songs are earning radio play, streaming at great numbers, and climbing download charts right beside heavyweights that we know and love.

The Roadhammers Boots and Hearts 2015Note: I don’t at all mean for this post to say that we don’t love the music and musicians that have paid their dues and paved the way for this new wave. Artists like Paul Brandt, Terri Clark, Jason McCoy, Michelle Wright, Patricia Conroy, Carolyn Dawn Johnson and Charlie Major are the reason we love Canadian country music in the first place – and that won’t ever change.

We’ve done the fantasy booking thing before, so we’re not going to do that right now. But we do want to share some of the names that are shaking up the country music world in this country. And we’ll give some love to the artists from the US that are doing the same thing.

We also want to know who you’re loving on the up and coming side of things… because sharing is caring, and one of the best ways to find new music is to be told about it by other people who have discovered it. So leave us a comment, give us a link, tell us what young country artists you’re loving right now.

Brett Kissel in the crowd Boots and Hearts 2014

Brett Kissel

Across the country, names like Brett Kissel, Jess Moskaluke, Kira Isabella, Madeline Merlo, and Autumn Hill are already becoming well known. Their hit songs, big tours, and great talent have pushed them into the conversation with stars like Dean Brody, Small Town Pistols, Chad Brownlee, Dallas Smith, and High Valley – and they deserve to be there. But… that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Some of you will also know names like Cold Creek County, River Town Saints, Wes Mack, Leah Daniels, Lindsay Broughton, Jordan McIntosh, Livy Jeanne – they’ve popped up on your playlists, on the radio, and on tour with some of the biggest names in the business. Hell, when Wes Mack opened for Shania Twain in 2015 he took a GIANT step forward in his career, but it’s because his album, Edge Of The Storm, that he remains in the minds of fans who saw those shows.

What’s even more awesome is that we’re a full dozen names into this list of emerging Canadian talent in country music and we are nowhere near done shouting out the singers and songwriters that we came up with in a 10 minute brainstorm.

The Reklaws Boots and Hearts 2015

The Reklaws

Raise your hand if you’re familiar with any of these names… Runaway Angel, Meghan Patrick, Lisa Nicole, Trinity Bradshaw, Cory Marquardt, Twin Kennedy, Jason Benoit, Abby Stewart, Petric, The Reklaws, Johnson Crook, Leanne Pearson, Robyn & Ryleigh, Tenille, Whitney Rose, The Lovelocks, Lindsay Ell, One More Girl, Yoan, Kaitlin Kozell, Eric Ethridge, James Barker Band, Dani Strong – 23 more country young country acts that are making their way in the business.

This whole group plays rib fests, fairs, small festivals, big festivals (shout out to Boots & Hearts for doing an amazing job of including emerging Canadian talent) and bars from coast to coast. They work hard, they write and play and sing and perform whenever and wherever they get the chance, and each and every time they do, they’re earning new fans.

Note: Nobody asked us to write this post. We weren’t approached by an artist or label or PR team to get someone included. Every artist on this list is here because they’ve impressed us with their work and talent. They deserve every success that they’ve earned so far, and everything that they receive in the future.

Dylan Scott Boots and Hearts 2015 2

Dylan Scott

Now, go ahead and add these names to the young artists that are tearing up country music south of the border, and we really are seeing the future – and the present of the genre we love. Artists like Maddie & Tae, Kelsea Ballerini, Cam, Dylan Scott, Kane Brown, Maren Morris, etc. etc. etc., are blowing up YouTube and Facebook with their videos, they’re climbing the Billboard charts, and they’re creating their own space among superstars like Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, and Eric Church.

I know that there are a lot of names in this post… 58 if I’ve counted correctly, but they all deserve to be here. They’re either the big names that we’ve loved for years, or the new crop of country that has a chance to be here for a long time.

And as much as we love supporting new music, and the artists that make it, the coolest thing about all of it is this… a year from now, at the start of 2017, there are going to be even more names that have come out of the woodwork and announced that they deserve to be on a list like this.

We love it.

Country music is alive and well.

And Canada is a big part of that. So turn up the speakers, dance in the kitchen, and sing along, because it’s a great time to fall in love with some new artists on the scene.

Country Music All-Star Hockey Fantasy Draft

With the NHL All-Star Game coming up in Nashville on January 31, we decided to have a little fun with some hockey loving country music stars and hold a fantasy draft of our own.

2016 NHL All Star Game LogoThere are 14 players on the board, 12 skaters and 2 goalies… all picked because of their experience on the ice and/or love of the game.

There are a couple rules… and then we’ll get to the draft!

How It Works…

1. Trish and I will take turns making our picks from the list of country artists below until we each have a team of 7 players.

2. Each team must consist of 1 goalie and 1 woman skater.

3. All other players are up for grabs in any order.

4. Jason & Tom Petric and Brad & Curtis Rempel may be picked individually or as a combo, but if drafted as a pair the next drafter’s turn will have 2 picks to even things up.

The Players

Alan Doyle (Juno Cup goalie)
Brett Kissel (Family Tournament goalie, 2015)
Carrie Underwood (wife of NHL player Mike Fisher, Predators fan)
Jess Moskaluke (Floor Hockey Experience on tour with Chad Brownlee)
Chad Brownlee (former Vancouver Canucks Draft Pick)
Theo Fleury(Former NHL player)
 Cory Marquardt (Former Junior player)
Bobby Wills (floor hockey experience on tour with Chad Brownlee)
 Tom Petric (High School player)
Jason Petric (High School player)
Brad Rempel (Juno Cup player)
Curtis Rempel (Juno Cup player)
Jim Cuddy (Juno Cup captain)
Dierks Bentley (Nashville Rec. League player)

Trish won a coin toss, so she’s got the 1st pick… here we go!

Round 1

Chad Brownlee Boots and Hearts 2015Trish: Chad Brownlee
Not a big surprise to my readers that Chad was my first choice. I watched him work his magic at The Mod Club and I have faith. His NHL career was cut short by injury but I think. at 6’2” in this field, he’s my star defenceman.

Josh: Theo Fleury
Theo Fleury spent a bunch years playing NHL hockey, played in 7 All-Star games, and won a gold medal with Team Canada in 2002… and he’s got a country album that he released in fall 2015. I’m happy with this pick!

Round 2

dierks-bentley-at-boots-and-hearts-2013Trish: Dierks Bentley
Dierks’ spends his spare time playing with the Nashville IceHoles and from what I’ve heard, he can’t get enough hockey. He carries his hockey gear with him while on tour just in case he can get in some ice time. That’s the kind of dedication I want on my team!

Josh: Cory Marquardt
The former junior player has a lot of high energy, and I’m betting his hands are just soft enough on the ice to make some plays.

Round 3

Brett Kissel CNE 2015Trish: Tom Petric
I’ll be counting on Tom as a forward and I’m thinking I’ll put him on a line with his brother.

Josh: Brett Kissel
Brett’s a big hockey fan who strapped on the pads last Christmas to play back home. We’re playing 3 on 3, so I’m not hoping for miracles here, just someone to stop some pucks.

Round 4

Petric 2015Trish: Jason Petric (picked in combo with Tom)
Jason may have spent a little time in the penalty box  during his hockey career. I’m happy to have him as muscle on my team.

Josh: Jim Cuddy
Cuddy’s a vet who knows what he’s doing on the ice. I need a captain, and his experience being the man in charge at the Juno Cup works for me!

Round 5

Jess Moskaluke Bright Lights Big City Toronto The PhoenixTrish: Carrie Underwood
Married to Mike Fisher, Carrie knows hockey. Can she shoot and skate? I hope she’s been practicing since the Oprah video in 2012. She brings a great energy and I’m glad to have her.

Josh: Jess Moskaluke
Jess is a sweetheart, but we’ve seen her amp up the energy on stage, and she spent the When The Lights Go Down tour with a floor hockey stick in her hands. Sign her up!

Round 6

High Valley Boots and Hearts 2015Trish: Curtis Rempel
Curtis grew up playing hockey and with a Juno Cup under his belt I’m sure he’ll be an asset to my team.

Josh: Brad Rempel
I’ll take the other half of High Valley, if nothing else we should create a little healthy rivalry between the brothers Rempel!

Round 7

Bobby Wills When The Lights Go Down Toronto-8020Trish: Alan Doyle
The most mature member of my team, and a lifetime lover of the game, Alan’s proven his worth in the net.

Josh: Bobby Wills
Bobby is another When The Lights Go Down alumni, and I’ll take him to skate with Jess, there’s got to be some chemistry there!

Lines

Trish
1: Chad Brownlee, Tom Petric, Jason Petric
2: Dierks Bentley, Curtis Rempel, Carrie Underwood
Goalie: Alan Doyle

Josh
1: Theo Fleury, Cory Marquardt, Brad Rempel
2: Jess Moskaluke, Bobby Wills, Jim Cuddy
Goalie: Brett Kissel

Results and Evaluation!

Trish: I’m happy with my picks and can’t help but think how awesome their team photo would look. Now if only we could make this game happen!

Josh: Trish has a great team, but I’m pretty happy with my 7 players… and I’d be happy to send ‘em out on the ice for a Country Music All-Star Hockey game any day of the week!

Now tell us whose team you think would win by voting in the poll!

Christmas Q&A with High Valley, Cory Marquardt, and Livy Jeanne!

The Reviews Are In Stars ChristmasWe love Christmas. It’s such a great time of year to see smiles on people’s faces and when a little kid unwraps a new present – that look is pretty magical.

This year we’re celebrating with some Q&A fun thanks to some of our favourites in Canadian country music. We tried it last year and had a ton of fun with Tim Hicks, Kira Isabella, Runaway Angel, Meghan Patrick, and Riki Knox.

So, here’s part 1 of our Canadian Country Music Christmas Q&A!

Let’s start with an easy one… do you have a favourite Christmas Carol or hymn?

High Valley Boots and Hearts 2015High Valley: Go Tell it on the Mountain

Cory Marquardt: I like a lot of Christmas songs but one that stands out to me isn’t really a carol but “If We Make It Through December” by Merle Haggard.

Livy Jeanne: I would have to say “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” It just makes me super happy… such a in love sounding song as well as “I’ll Be Home For Christmas“.

Food is a big part of the holiday process, will you tell us what your favourite part of Christmas dinner is?

Livy Jeanne CNE 2015 Northern Comfort SaloonLivy Jeanne: Hmmmmmm thats pretty tough… Ive been very blessed to have a fantastic mom who has always made unreal dishes… but i would have to say sweet potato casserole and some of the popular Ukrainian dishes… Nalysnyky, Cabbage Rolls, Pierogies and Perishke. We also have this silly tradition where my mom would buy those crackers filled with usually some random toy/game, a riddle and a paper hat. Its always hilarious watching everyone eat christmas dinner in a paper hat that is either way too tight or way to big.

High Valley: Our sister Cindy makes double crusted chocolate pie. It looks like apple pie, but with home made chocolate custard.

Cory Marquardt: The whole thing is awesome. The amount of different foods and desserts but most importantly enjoying a huge meal with your family. We do Christmas crakers after dinner and read the jokes in them while enjoying our drink of choice. I love that!

Let’s take it back a little with this one. What was your #1 present when you were a kid?

Cory Marquardt CNE 2015Cory Marquardt: When I was about 10 Santa brought me this huge F-14 Tomcat. This wicked looking fighter jet in which the wings would sweep back and forth electronically and with missiles that could fire with the press of a button. For those that are unaware…This was the same jet in the movie Top Gun!

Livy Jeanne: For some random reason I remember getting one of those giant tigers that were usually featured in a sears catalog. It was just sitting under the tree with a big red bow on it. I also always enjoyed opening one gift on christmas eve, which was usually PJs.

High Valley: Brad -> Super Nintendo with NHL 97. Curtis -> Donkey Kong

Maybe this one will take us back too… do you have a favourite Christmas movie or TV special?

Rudolph the Red-Nosed ReindeerHigh Valley: ELF

Cory Marquardt: Home alone. Both movies are timeless!

Livy Jeanne: I loved all the disney christmas movies . The Santa Claus, Home Alone… but the one I remember watching the most was Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer.

Last one, and we think we’ve saved the best. What is your favourite celebratory drink when you’re celebrating during the holiday season?

Jack Daniels Winter JackLivy Jeanne: When I can have booze hahaha champagne…. but non alcoholic my favourite would have to be an Egg Nog Latte.

High Valley: Hot Chocolate with tons of whipped cream.

Cory Marquardt: Rum and eggnog with Dad and the brother. I got my Dad on a new celebratory drink called “Winter Jack”. I think we both enjoy that one, you should try it out!

Big thank you to Brad, Curtis, Cory, and Livy for playing along… we wish them all a Merry Christmas.

Stay tuned for more Christmas Q&A fun coming soon. Be Awesome!

5 Reasons Boots & Hearts Tickets Make A Great Christmas Present

We were talking with our friends at Boots & Hearts this week, and while we’re working on some very exciting things for 2016 (stay tuned) we also talked about how cool it would be to get tickets to the festival as a present.

Note: There’s a big contest coming in 2016, but there’s also a special contest right now! Check out Bonus 2 at the bottom of this post to find out how you can win some sweet Boots  & Hearts swag for the holidays!

I mean, that would be huge. Because it would be such a big deal, and because we love lists… we’re breaking down the top 5 reasons Boots and Hearts 2016 tickets make the best present this Christmas.

1) The Lineup

Blake Shelton On Stage Boots and Hearts 2014This one is easy. Have you seen the list of names coming to Burl’s Creek in 2016?
❤️ Blake Shelton
❤️ Tim McGraw
❤️ Dierks Bentley
❤️ Cam
❤️ Sam Hunt
❤️ Chase Rice
❤️ Tim Hicks
❤️ Emerson Drive
❤️ Jason Blaine
❤️ Autumn Hill
❤️  Cory Marquardt
❤️  Jason Benoit
❤️  Jojo Mason… more, more, more.

We’re going to get 3 days and 4 nights of awesome music on the B&H stages, just like we get every year. And if you know a country music fan, they’re going to want to be there to see it.

2) The Venue

Boots and Hearts Burls Creek Sunset 2015Last year was our first at Burl’s Creek for the festival, and it was gorgeous. There’s so much grass and space and opportunity to lounge on a hill, or get right up to the stage, or even lay down in the afternoon sun and relax/nap off your hangover.

Last year 40,000 people attended Boots & Hearts, in 2016 we’re probably going to be looking at 45,000… and there’s room for everyone!

Note: If you are attending B&H in 2016, use the garbage cans. The days are long, and if you start dropping trash on the ground at noon it’s really in the way by the time the headliners are off the stage at 11.

3) The Fans

boots-and-hearts-2013-crowd-oh-canada45,000… that’s a big number. But after being present for all of Boots & Hearts 2015, and seeing the names that have been added to the 2016 festival already, we have no doubt that we’re going to get there.

That means 45,000 people singing and dancing and smiling and enjoying the hell out of a Thursday to Sunday experience.

It also means a boat load of people at the gates and near the stages and in the campgrounds, so we need y’all to be good to each other. Take care of your bro who drinks a little too much, give your best friend some water when she’s been out in the sun for hours, respect everyone and their property and we can all have the best weekend of the year.

4) The Emerging Talent

Tim Hicks Boots and Hearts 2014 SaturdayIn years 1 through 4 we’ve seen some awesome emerging talent at Boots & Hearts. Tebey, Tim Hicks, Wes Mack, The Reklaws, Trinity Bradshaw, Runaway Angel, The James Barker Band, Eric Ethridge and more great acts have participated in the Sirius XM Emerging Artist Showcase. And we’ve seen acts like Sam Hunt, Dylan Scott, One More Girl, Danielle Bradbery, Jess Moskaluke and more hit the stage before they really became household names.

This year will be no different. With Cam, Jordan McIntosh, Cory Marquardt, Jojo Mason, and Jason Benoit already on the schedule we can promise that everyone is going to leave Boots & Hearts as a fan of someone they didn’t know you loved when you arrived.

5) The Surprises

BSOMF Tebey Sound of Music Festival-6595Every year something awesome happens at Boots & Hearts that wasn’t scheduled and we didn’t know about ahead of time. We’ve seen Dean Brody roll out, and Jim Cuddy & Greg Keelor played hits for us. Last year we saw Tebey show up to give us Wake Me Up with Emerson Drive and got a HUGE pop from the crowd. There’s always something hidden up the sleeves of the B&H team…

And we can’t wait to see what it’s going to be during the 5th Anniversary Celebration!

BandH Holiday Card 2016BONUS 1

The price point for Boots & Hearts 2016 tickets also makes them perfect for Christmas presents, Hanukkah presents, birthday presents… any kind of present really. AND groups of up to 8 people can share 1 camping site, which makes it super affordable for 4 nights of camping fun!

BONUS 2 – CONTEST

Boots and Hearts Koozie and Sunglasses thereivewsareinWe have some Boots & Hearts swag to give away as we all get ready for the holidays.

CLICK THIS LINK to check out the contest and enter to win 2 pairs of B&H sunglasses and 2 B&H beer koozies.

We can’t wait to send these out to someone… and to give away a HUGE Boots & Hearts prize early in 2016!

Boots & Hearts 2016 Lineup Announcement #2 – Blake Shelton, Sam Hunt, Cam, and More!

It’s a big morning for Boots and Hearts fans. And that’s an understatement.

13 acts have been added to the B&H lineup which brings us to a total of 16 including the previous announcement of Tim McGraw and Dierks Bentley, plus the 2015 Sirius XM Emerging Artist Showcase winners, The James Barker Band.

The list of 13 is littered with returning performers, favourite Canadian acts, and 3 artists from Joshua’s One to Watch in 2016 list.

Here they are…

❤️ Blake Shelton
Blake Shelton On Stage Boots and Hearts 2014Y’all already know about Blake. He’s the winningest coach on NBC’s The Voice. He’s a 4 time ACM and 9 time CMA Award winner. He’s got more hit singles than we can even think of off the top of our heads – and he did a killer job headlining at Boots & Hearts in 2014 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. We can’t wait to see him up on the big stage again with a drink in one hand the microphone in the other!

❤️ Sam Hunt
Sam Hunt Wheels Up Tour Toronto June 2015We LOVE Sam Hunt. That’s no secret. He’s on Joshua’s Ones to Watch in 2016 list as we wait for the follow up to Montevallo. He was awesome on tour with Lady Antebellum in 2015, AND he walked away from the American Music Awards with the New Artist of the Year trophy in his hands. This former QB is running his own show, and after a rain shortened set on the small stage in 2014, he’s coming back for more at Burl’s Creek!

❤️ Chase Rice
Chase Rice Live in ConcertChase Rice is on the rise. After supporting Kenny Chesney on the Big Revival tour he set out with The Cadillac Three on the Jack Daniels and Jesus Tour to show that he’s headlining material on his own. His reputation for putting on a great show precedes him, and if he brings that to Burl’s Creek in August 2016, we should all be happy with the results!

❤️ Tim Hicks
Tim Hicks -77692015 was the 1st year that Tim Hicks wasn’t at Boots & Hearts – and we missed him. He told us at the 2014 CNE that he knew he’d have to take a year off at some point, and we’re glad it was just 1 year, and now we get him back. We’ve seen Tim live more than a couple of times now, and if any Canadian artist can step up in 2016 and put on the kind of show that Dallas Smith did in 2015, it’s going to be him. Get your Stronger Beer ready!

❤️ Emerson Drive
Emerson Drive Boots and Hearts 2015 FeatureWhat can we say about Emerson Drive that everyone doesn’t know already? These Canadian boys have been tearing up country music stages for 20 years, and they show no signs of slowing down. They’ve played the big stage and the small stage at B&H, and in 2016 they’re coming back again to show us that they’ve still got it!

❤️ Jason Blaine
jason-blaine-at-boots-and-hearts-2013Another good Canadian boy! Jason is one of the nicest people in country (according to those in country) and as we come up to the 13th anniversary of his 1st single, it still feels like he’s getting better and better and better. We saw him in the sunshine at Boots and Hearts in 2013, here’s hoping it’s the same weather and another great show in 2016!

❤️ Cam
Cam Untamed Feature BannerOh Cam… It’s no secret that I have a crush on Cam. Her voice, her lyrics, her smile, her hair – it’s a total package that is taking country music by storm. And with her debut full-length album Untamed, set to come out on December 11, 2015, we’ll all have plenty of time to learn her tracks so we can sing along at Boots and Hearts. So excited for this performance!

❤️ Alan Doyle and the Beautiful Gypsies
Alan Doyle TrishcaAlan Doyle is a Canadian music legend. His career (both solo and with Great Big Sea) has earned him tons of fans and love from coast to coast, and has turned more than 1 venue into a good old fashioned Petty Harbour, Newfoundland kitchen party. And if anyone was taking bets right now, we’d have money on him doing it again at Burl’s Creek. Be ready to dance!

❤️ Autumn Hill
Autumn Hill -8822Young, talented, hot, energetic… there are a lot of adjectives that we can use to describe Autumn Hill, and we’re sure that they’re going to add more to the list as they continue their career. In 2015 the duo cracked the Top 5 on Canadian Country Radio with Blame, and in 2016 they’ll be looking to follow that up with more shows, singles, fans, and love – and by the time August comes we’ll be itching to see what they year has brought them!

❤️ Jojo Mason
Jojo MasonThis mid-20’s Regina native is coming to Boots and Hearts for the first time in 2016, and he’ll be looking to make an impression. His debut single, It’s All Good is available now, and people are taking notice. August might feel like a long time away to some, and really close to others, but either way these 6 months are going to give Jojo Mason a chance to give us all something more to sing along with at Boots and Hearts!

❤️ Jason Benoit
Jason BenoitHe’s a hard working man, you can tell that by the tour dates he’s crammed into his schedule. And he loves to play, you can tell that by the energy and enthusiasm he brings to the stage. Fresh off of tour with Tim Hicks, Benoit will be heading to Boots and Hearts with new fans to make and (hopefully) some new songs for us all to sing. Can’t wait to see what this Newfoundlander brings to the Boots and Hearts festivities!

❤️ Jordan McIntosh
jordan-mcintosh-boots-and-hearts-2014-wm-0994Jordan is an up and comer. Brett Kissel took him out on tour in 2015 and by his words, loved having him become a brother. Jordan has been at Boots and Hearts before, so he knows what he’s getting into (the screams from the girls that love him) when he takes the stage. We can’t wait to talk to him and watch him do his thing… maybe he’ll share some stories about Livy Jeanne!

❤️ Cory Marquardt
Cory Marquardt CNE 2015This is exactly what Joshua wrote about Cory for the Ones to Watch in 2016 list, “He parties hard and works harder, and that’s going to result in more and more opportunity and face time for this former hockey player. We know there’s a new video (with a cameo by his dog Emma) and single on the way, and with any luck that’ll be the start of a big year.” We can’t wait to see him at Boots add Hearts to his 2016!

Ones to Watch in 2016!

2015 is wrapping up, and I promised a Ones to Watch in 2016 list, so here it is.

If you’ve got an artist that you think we should be watching for next year, please leave a comment and tell us so we can add them to our list!

Cam Untamed Feature BannerCam With a brand new album dropping this December, Cam is prepping for a big 2016. We’re already in love with Burning House and My Mistake, and with 8 new tracks coming on the Untamed album, we’re betting that we’re going to have more to love in the coming year. She’s bubbly and sweet and easy to crush on… let’s see where this goes.

Dylan Scott Boots and Hearts 2015 2Dylan Scott 2015 was a big year for Dylan as he built his fanbase with some great work on social media, and cracked the Top 40 country charts with Crazy Over Me. After catching young Mr. Scott on stage at Boots & Hearts this summer we’re hoping for big things and another trip to play for Canadian crowds.

Meghan Patrick at Liuna Station Gibson at the Junos 2015Meghan Patrick Meghan’s been down in Nashville killing it in the studio recording music after signing with Warner Music Canada and The Agency Group earlier this year. I can’t wait to hear what the writing sessions and studio work produce from a Durham County local girl that we’ve been watching hone her craft for the last few years.

The Lazys Toronto Horseshoe TavernThe Lazys The Aussie rockers are loud and obnoxious in the very best of ways. After hanging out for a beer, talking music, and watching them up on stage, we know these boys are ready for more. With writing and recording pencilled into their 2016 schedule, including another trip back to North America, our fingers are crossed that we’ll see The Lazys headline with new material to go with the stuff we already dig.

Sam Hunt with guitar Wheels Up Tour Toronto June 2015Sam Hunt Yes, everyone already knows Sam Hunt and he’s hella popular, but we also hear that he’s working on some new music to follow up Montevallo. It might be hard to avoid a sophomore slump after such huge early success, and that’s why we’re watching… we want to see him knock another one out of the park.

Johnson Crook Boots and Hearts 2015Johnson Crook These 4 dudes are a bucket of fun and their talent shines through in the early work they’ve done together. We know they’ve been in studio, and can’t wait to see what tracks make it to the final product.

River Town Saints CMW 2015River Town Saints These boys know how to have fun on stage, and that’s been a key in starting to make a name for themselves on the Canadian country music scene. There’s a lot more to come from River Town Saints and 2016 is going to be the start of that story.

Cory Marquardt CNE 2015Cory Marquardt He parties hard and works harder, and that’s going to result in more and more opportunity and face time for this former hockey player. We know there’s a new video (with a cameo by his dog Emma) and single on the way, and with any luck that’ll be the start of a big year.

Mieke 3Mieke I really dug the early release work from Mieke this summer, and we’re hoping that there’s more coming in 2016. If you still haven’t heard Sleeping Alone, give it a listen and let us know what you think.

Livy Jeanne CNE 2015 Northern Comfort SaloonLivy Jeanne In 2015 she worked the stage and the backstage microphone, and she made friends everywhere she went. If 2016 is anything like that, we’ll be happy. We’ll also be happy when more people know her name – and we’ve still got “hang out with Livy and Jordan McIntosh” on our To Do List.

Boots and Hearts 2016 BannerBoots & Hearts OK, it’s weird to put a festival on this list, but as we all get ready for the B&H 5th Anniversary it’s impossible not to think about the weekend we’re going to have at Burl’s Creek and who else is going to be added to a lineup that already includes Tim McGraw and Dierks Bentley.

2015-16 NHL Canadian Country Music Season Preview

The NHL season starts this week with Montreal in Toronto, Vancouver in Calgary, New York in Chicago, and San Jose in Los Angeles… and to get us all ready for hockey we recruited 10 of our own Canadian Country Music All-Stars to give us their preview!

We asked each artist 3 questions (Favourite Team, Why/How Long Have You Loved Them, What Do You Expect This Season) and got some awesome answers.

HUGE thanks are going out to Chad Brownlee, Brett Kissel, Bobby Wills, Lindsay Broughton, Tim Chaisson, David Roberts, Cory Marquardt, Tim Hicks, Petric, and Yoan for playing along with our brand new idea this season. We love that there is so much love for puck in the country music community.

So, have a look and see which singer shares the same NHL team love affair as you – and leave a comment to tell us your favourite team, the story of you loving them, and what you expect from them this season!

2015-16 NHL Preview!

Chad Brownlee

Chad Brownlee NHL Preview 2015What is your favourite NHL team?
Vancouver Canucks

Why / How long have you loved them?
Since I can remember. Growing up in BC with my Dad being a huge Canucks fan made it pretty easy to decide which team to cheer for!

What do you expect from them this season?
I think the changes they made last season was the beginning of something great. This year is simply going to add to the success that I see growing in years to come!

Brett Kissel

Brett Kissel CNE 2015What is your favourite NHL team?
EDMONTON OILERS

Why / How long have you loved them?
“I’ve literally loved the Oilers since I was born. Interesting story, I was born the day the Oilers won their last Stanley Cup in 1990. My brother thinks I’m a curse to the team, because as long as I’ve been alive, they haven’t won the cup since…”

What do you expect from them this season?
“I truly believe that the Oilers will make the playoffs this year. With all that young star power, I mean, they’ve got to! If Calgary got into the playoffs this past season, then the Oilers NEED to!”

Note: On September 3, 2015 at the CNE in Toronto, Brett gave the crowd a guarantee that the Maple Leafs would make the playoffs this season. Remember that 😉

Bobby Wills

When The Lights Go Down Toronto Bobby Wills-8043What is your favourite NHL team?
Calgary Flames

Why / How long have you loved them?
My favourite team as a little guy was the Bruins as we have Massachusetts roots, but the battle of Alberta pulled me in.

What do you expect from them this season?
A playoff spot, hard to say from there. The west is so competitive it is going to be a dog fight!!

Lindsay Broughton

Lindsay Broughton at the 2015 CMAO Awards.

What is your favourite NHL team?
The Detroit Red Wings

Why / How long have you loved them?
HA! Weeell this isn’t awkward at all! To be quite honest I’m fairly new on the Detroit bandwagon! I was a long time lover, supporter and most often defender of the Leafs (stop laughing!) However I was forced to change my ways, burn the blue clothes, convert and become the enemy when I started dating a player in the Detroit organization about a year and a half ago. Yep, I am the ultimate traitor but if it’s any consolation sometimes I still secretly cheer for the Leafs… shhh..

What do you expect from them this season?
Uhmm a cup? haha..kidding. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens without Babcock being there but obviously I’m excited about the season and have faith that the new changes are going to bring big things. 🙂

Tim Chaisson

Tim Chaisson Lost in the Light Release Party ShowWhat is your favourite NHL team?
Montreal Canadiens!

Why / How long have you loved them?
Well, my father pretty much brainwashed my brothers and I since we were born to love the Habs, so as long as I can remember I guess!

What do you expect from them this season?
I’d love to see a strong play-off season myself! I also think it’s pretty cool that P.K. Subban is giving so much back to the community.

David Roberts of The Washboard Union

David Robertson The Washboard UnionWhat is your favourite NHL team?
Toronto Maple Leafs

Why / How long have you loved them?
Since I was a kid of 6, we had seasons tickets at Maple Leaf Gardens, up in the Blues, Section 29

What do you expect from them this season?
Here are my 2015/2016 predictions:
a) In a Wed Oct 7th press release it will be revealed that The Leafs will work a deal with season ticket holders who will now only pay for winning games.
b) It’s a rebuild year, or decade or whatever the term is for the 49 odd years they have been waiting to win the cup back….
c) Record Producer and world’s biggest Leaf fan GGGarth Richardson will be hired as the new head coach and will guide the team to victory and win the 2015/2016 Stanley Cup aka La Coupe Stanley
d) The Leafs will continue to sell out night after night…Go Leafs Go

Cory Marquardt

Cory Marquardt CNE 2015What is your favourite NHL team?
Toronto Maple Leafs

Why / How long have you loved them?
My Dad is from Toronto and my grandpa was a big fan. I still picture them in 94-96 Potvin, Clark, Gilmore, Tie Domi and the list goes on

What do you expect from them this season?
They made some pretty big changes and I’m sure they’ll be making more. Not sure what to expect but I see them winning a cup in 20**…

Tim Hicks

Tim Hicks -7769What is your favourite NHL team?
I’m a Leafs guy

Why / How long have you loved them?
It’s sort of ingrained in the culture where I grew up that you must be a Leafs fan or face the consequences lol! Geographically, they’re the closest Canadian team and I always root for home.

What do you expect from them this season?
I’m expecting them to finally throw us a bone! Come on boys!!

Petric

Petric Live in StudioWhat is your favourite NHL team?
We’re both huge Jets fans! Toms also has a love for the Detroit Red Wings

Why / How long have you loved them?
We’ve been proud jets fans, even the years they didn’t exist in the league. Those were the years the Red Wings jersey got worn a lot. The year we both started playing hockey the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup, and Stevie Yzerman was Toms all time favourite player.

What do you expect from them this season?
The Jets have a lot of young blood, which may bring some growing pains, but should also bring a lot of exciting hockey. GO JETS GO!

Yoan CNE 2015What is your favourite NHL team?
The Montreal Canadians.

Why / How long have you loved them?
I think Hockey is a part of our culture and heritage and so are the Montreal Canadians. I played hockey for 5 years and my dad has always been a really big fan of the team so we used to watch the games together when I was growing up. The last two years have been so busy for me that I don’t have as much time to follow hockey religiously as I did before but I try to support the team every time I can.

What do you expect from them this season?
I wish them the best and hopefully the Stanley Cup!
