Late on Friday night, after the sun went down, after Flume was done on the WayHome main stage and after the calendar had flipped to Saturday, Danny Brown hit the WayAway stage to put on a show.
Tucked away in the woods at the smaller stage, with little to no lights, Danny Brown created a very intimate atmosphere. The energy level was high and the crowd was all in.
Nicely done, Sir!
Day 1 of WayHome 2017 was filled with sun in the afternoon, and music all day (and late into the night) on the WayBright, WayAway, and WayHome stages. I can’t wait to see what Saturday and Sunday bring.
Check out my favourite photos from the day, including shots of festival goers, Cage the Elephant, Andy Shauf, Danny Brown, Tanya Tagaq, Constantines, and more – and stay tuned because more WayHome coverage is coming!
One of the biggest late night acts hitting WayHome will be Detroit’s Danny Brown, slated to take the WayAway Stage at 12:15 am on Friday night. This is one we’re really looking forward to.
His latest tour to support his new album, Atrocity Exhibition has taken the rapper all over North America with stops in The UK, Sweden and The Netherlands still to come. Brown stated that he was inspired by both the Joy Division song of the same name and J. G. Ballard’s novel (same name) when choosing a title for his 2016 album. Atrocity Exhibition has received accolades from industry and fans alike with the album making many of the big Top 50 lists for 2016 including Rolling Stone, Pitchfork and Spin.
Brown’s latest video release is for the track Lost, directed by Matilda Finn is a black and white odyssey rife with claustrophobic and sometimes disturbing shots. Clips of an apartment peephole, Brown cooking money and tin foil aprons with a myriad of interesting characters, it’s a masterpiece of paranoia. We’re going to warn you, if you’ve got a weak stomach, you may want to skip the introductory sequence.
Brown is a pro on stage and this festival provides the best in everything. Expect clear vocals, high energy and loads of hits. If you missed him in November in Toronto, now is your chance. We’re wondering if ScHool Boy Q will be around early to join Danny on stage for a song.
We bring you 10 Danny Brown songs to help get you ready for the live version.
We’ve been waiting, all of us, patiently (mostly) for this day – and now it’s here…
WayHome has released the lineup for the 2017 music and arts festival, and the time is now to get excited for July 28-30 at Burl’s Creek.
With the release of their photo clues last week, WayHome started a conversation full of guesses, predictions, rumours and more. But now the guessing is over, and the planning can start. If you’ve already got your tickets for the festival, you’re hoping that some of the names on the list aren’t performing on stages at the same time (there are always hard decisions), and if you don’t have your tickets yet – it’s time to grab them so you can see Imagine Dragons, Frank Ocean, and Flume headlining on the weekend.
The last two years at WayHome have been a lot of fun. We’ve seen some amazing performances. We’ve seen some awesome totems. And we’ve witnessed the awesomeness of people coming together to enjoy music and art. The people, you people, that come to the fields and stages and campgrounds make this whole thing pretty cool.
Check the list of 2017 WayHome performers so far, and leave a comment telling us who you’re most excited to see.
And stay tuned – because we’ll have previews, interviews, and maybe even some badass contests leading up to the end of July.
