I don’t know about you, but I am extremely excited to have male vocalist of the year & song of the year winner Thomas Rhett as one of the headliners! I am very thrilled to see what he has in store for everyone. We’re also lucky to have critically acclaimed singer and songwriter Brad Paisley who has won numerous awards in his career and is constantly taking over the charts. We also can’t forget about the hilarious Blake Shelton… five-time male vocalist of the year, Grammy nominee and one of my favourite judges on this season of The Voice.

Don’t worry we didn’t forget about the other remarkable artists taking over the stages at this years festival! I am looking forward to experiencing the diversity all these artists will bring; from heart filled songs to heart breaks, celebrating the weekend, grabbing a beer with your friends, and growing up in a small town – this festival will have all of your country needs checked off.

Due to the festival being located in the city, there are no camping accommodations, only hotels. But don’t worry!!! Country Thunder has a list of 19 different hotel partners near the festival site that will suit your budget and requirements. Plus, with your festival passes you are welcome to shuttle back and worth for free. Try not to wait to long to purchase tickets to Calgary’s Country Thunder though, as limited tickets are remaining for the full weekend festival.

Grab you’re cowboy hat, wear your best dancing shoes and get ready to experience everything that Country Thunder has to offer!

By Heart: Robyn & Ryleigh Album Release Q&A!

Sister act Robyn & Ryleigh are starting 2016 with a bang!

Robyn and Ryleigh By Heart 2016The January 15th release of their album, By Heart, signals the start of some very exciting times for the girls, with a radio tour coming and shows being added to fill in their 2016 schedule already. It’s also a chance for the sisters to show what they’ve got, having been down to Nashville to write songs, and even record material for the album in Music City.

The album is available now, and we’ve had a chance to give it a few listens (gladly) from top to bottom.

It’s a fun assortment of 7 tracks, with uptempo vibes that will make fans want to sing and dance along… in fact, I Found You may be doing just that to me right now while I try to write this.

In the middle of the all the excitement right now we caught up with Robyn & Ryleigh by email to chat about the album, secret things about themselves, what their listening to, AND about the cover in the middle of the album that took us back in time a little bit.

Thanks to the girls for playing along, we know that big things are coming, and we’ll be ready for them.

So, check out the Q&A here, and find By Heart on iTunes now!

Robyn and Ryleigh Completely AdorableQ. How exciting is it to have new music out and available to your fans to start the new year?

A. It is very exciting! We are all so ecstatic to have new music for the new year. It’s such a positive start, giving everyone a feeling of being accomplished, even though it’s only the first week of the New Year! It makes us all very happy starting the year off this way, because it can only go up from here. So we’re looking forward for what’s to come and we’re glad to give our fans something new from us to ring in the 2016!

Q. Is there anything specific that you love or are especially proud of on the By Heart album?

A. To be completely honest and we hope this doesn’t sound like we are tooting our own horns, but we’re so proud of this entire album! We have worked so hard to make our album absolutely perfect, that when it came to us in the boxes the other day we all started crying with tears of happiness. This is where all of our hard work went. To be a little more specific there is one song on the album that was born and recorded in Nashville. It’s the song titled “Better Tomorrow” which is insanely cool and makes the song so unique. We wrote others in Nashville but this is the only one recorded in Nashville. So I would say we are especially proud of that song.

Q. We’ve asked some other acts this question before, and we’re always interested in the answer… what is it really like working and travelling and creating together as siblings?

A. It is so amazing to always have backup. We both have each other’s backs no matter what. If we’re having to take a flight somewhere, to be an act at a festival, we never have to fly alone. We both love having a partner in this industry. We are able to lean on each other and if somethings hard we get through it together. If something is fun and amazing we have someone to share it with.

So the answer is, even though we are siblings and we fight regularly, it’s an amazing thing being able to work together, towards something we are both passionate about.

Robyn and Ryleigh GuitarQ. And here’s another of our favourites! Can you each tell us 1 thing about yourselves that we wouldn’t find with a Google search?

Robyn: Something about me that you wouldn’t be able to find on the Internet, hmmm that’s a tough one haha. Ryleigh and I post everything online from our favourite foods, to the workout gear I wear when I workout. You already know I like working on my car, things like oil changes and breaks. But something you don’t know is I’m currently learning Spanish. I’m learning it slowly due to lack of free time (obviously I’d rather be picking up my guitar any chance I get) but I love the language, I’ve even started writing a song in Spanish. Wish me luck! Haha .

Ryleigh: This is Robyn, answering for Ryleigh, because I want to say that Ryleigh is an amazing cook. She cooks us dinner all the time and it’s always super good and healthy. We are all thankful to have such a talented cook in the house. Haha after this I will ask Ryleigh to make me some of her famous spicy prawns with zucchini noodles.

Q. We remember the song California since Wave released it in 2001, what drew you to it 15 years later as a cover on the new album?

A. We loved that song from the beginning! We were in elementary school when the song came out and we remember singing along to it with our friends. We had a writing session scheduled with Dave Thomson and it was such a coincidence that he had written one of our favourite songs from back in the day. So after we left Nashville and we’re working on the new album we got to thinking… We should ask him for the rights to record it. Sure enough he thought that was very flattering and said go for it! So we did!

Robyn and Ryleigh By Heart Available NowQ. Last one, promise… a whole bunch of people are going to listen to By Heart – but we want to know who you’re listening to. Can you give us a top 5 list of your most played recently?

A. Break up with him by Old Dominion is an awesome new song! It’s so cheeky and flirty. That’s the kind of stuff we love!

Carrie Underwood released Smoke Break and as soon as she did, we decided to learn it. It’s super catchy, Ryleigh plays guitar on the song and I picked up the mandolin for it, sounds pretty cool!

Ryleigh has an addiction to Phil Collins… It isn’t any one song, It’s all of them!

Miranda Lambert will always have me as one of her biggest fans forever. I love her, I love what she stands for and I love her music so so much!

Dixie Chicks, I know every word to almost every song 🙂

Taylor swift, she is an amazing songwriter and is so beyond talented. She is one in a million.

Ellie Goulding is another one of our favourites. It is honestly really cool that you can hear her accent even in the music, normally accents disappear in any English language music, so that is really cool. Also her song “On My Mind” is in our heads all the time.

Q. Okay, 1 more – is there anything else you want to tell everyone before we wrap up and they start listening to the album?

A. Haha are we sure this is the real last question? These have been really fun questions to answer, so we don’t mind at all, lay em’ on us!!

When y’all listen to this album, all we ask is…. CRANK IT UP! Seriously, It sounds way better loud 😉

This is just the first announcement in what’s looking to be a fantastic lineup for the Cavendish Beach Music Festival 2016 season. This festival is growing and it’s become one of the top tourist draws for Prince Edward Island. Cavendish, like many other festivals has become a big supporter of local charities and environmental initiatives. Check out their website for all of the details. We can hardly wait for the next announcement!

Shut Me Up: Old Dominion and Blackjack Billy at Boots & Hearts 2015!

The Coors Banquet Kick Off Party was a whole lot of fun on Thursday night with 5 acts, a lot of music and a ton of beer poured on top.

Coors Kick Off Party Boots and Hearts 2015-10292 of those acts end up as a combination of 9 guys who love to play music, engage with the crowd and get down to business. Old Dominion and Blackjack Billy were both awesome on Thursday, and we’re quite happy that we were there to see it.

Let’s have a look at some pics, what we saw at Boots & Hearts 2015’s opening night, and maybe a little something extra.

Old Dominion

Old Dominion Boots and Hearts 2015-0995When people say things like, “this band could be the next big thing” we tend to take it with a grain of salt because you never know what’s going to happen.

With that said, Old Dominion has a really good shot at being that next big thing!

These 5 dudes took over the Boots & Hearts stage in their 1st ever Canadian show, and did not disappoint. With a mix of originial songs and tracks written by the band for other top country acts… like Sangria (Blake Shelton), A Guy Walks Into a Bar (Tyler Farr), Say You Do (Dierks Bentley) – seriously, these guys showed us that they know how to write some good music!

The set also showed off the stage presence and harmonies that the Old Dominion boys bring to the party, and made us want to know why this is only the first time they’ve been up here north of the border.

If you’re not familiar with Old Dominion yet, go check out Shut Me Up, Beer Can in a Truck Bed, Nowhere Fast, Break Up with Him, and Wrong Turns – you won’t find the live versions we sang along to on Thursday, but you’ll wish you had!

Old Dominion Boots and Hearts 2015-0927

Blackjack Billy

Blackjack Billy Boots and Hearts 2015-1109Another group of boys from the south came up to party with the Canadian country fans at Burl’s Creek.

Blackjack Billy came to the stage with energy to burn, and they wasted zero time doing it. They have a reputation as a big time, good time, party time band – and while they certainly lived up to it, they also gave the fans under the big tent and on the lawn something to groove to with Slow Dancin Under The Sheets.

But when the time was right they cranked up the intensity with A Little Drinkalong & I Got A Feelin (written and performed originally with good Canadian boy, Tim Hicks) which got everyone in a singing and dancing and drinking mood.

Also, Blackjack Billy may have given us 2 of the best medleys we’ve ever seen at a country show…

Blackjack Billy Boots & Hearts Medley #1

Crazy Bitch – Buckcherry
Give It Away – Red Hot Chili Peppers
Sweet Emotion – Aerosmith
Boys Round Here – Blake Shelton
Thrift Shop – Macklemore and Ryan Lewis

Blackjack Billy Boots & Hearts Medley #2

I’m Yours – Jason Mraz
Stronger Beer – Tim Hicks (what a HUGE pop this one got)
Let It Go – Frozen soundtrack
Lose Yourself – Eminem (so much audience rapping)
No Woman No Cry – Bob Marley
Ride Wit Me – Nelly (Must Be The Money!)

And just when you wondered how they could top themselves, it was time for their biggest hit – Booze Cruise!

Note: For the first time ever at a country music concert I’ve attended I saw a stage dive. Big love to Blackjack Billy’s lead singer for taking the plunge!

Blackjack Billy Boots and Hearts 2015-1057The Something Special!

We promised a little something special… and here it is. This kid is adorable and having the time of his life. Bravo to mom and dad for packing the costume and being awesome about the whole darn thing!

5 New Country Acts We’re Excited to See at Boots & Hearts 2015

Boots & Hearts is coming. We’ve been over that. Single Day VIP passes are available. Daily schedules have been released. Excitement is growing.

We all know who the headliners are, and we love them. Just like you, we can’t wait to see Brad Paisley, Eric Church, Florida Georgia Line, Little Big Town, Thomas Rhett, Dallas Smith, Jess Moskaluke, Kira Isabella, etc, etc, etc… but there are other acts, new acts, that we can’t wait to see up on stage as well.

So let’s break down 5 of the acts that aren’t headliners yet – but are on their way.

Leah Daniels

Leah Daniels CMAO 2015Fresh off her Rising Star win at the Country Music Association of Ontario Awards, Leah Daniels is getting ready for a huge push!

With Go Back going Top 20, Dream Without You climbing the charts right now, and a stage show that continues to get better and better. We can’t wait to see what the Uxbridge girl brings to the Boots & Hearts stage. You can be sure you’re going to see a big smile, a big voice, and a boat load of enthusiasm.

Be ready to hear some new music, maybe some great covers – but most of all, be ready to see an artist that you’re going to hear a lot more of in the next few years!

Maddie & Tae

Maddie and Tae Start Here Album CoverIn 2014 these girls took the country music world by storm with Girl In A Country Song. And now we’re only 2 and a half months away from the release of their debut full length album, Start Here, and that’s exciting for fans and for Maddie & Tae.

Fly has been a strong 2nd single for the duo and we can’t wait to hear those 2 songs as well as like Your Side Of Town, Sierra, and maybe a few new ones that we haven’t heard yet. Boots & Hearts is going to feel like an unofficial Canadian album release party – just 3 weeks early. We’re ready for that!

Old Dominion

Old DominionWith Break Up With Him all over the place right now it’s hard to believe that there are many country fans that aren’t familiar with Old Dominion. And if you don’t know that song yet, maybe you remember Shut Me Up from just a little while ago.

The songs that these boys sing lead us to believe that we’re going to get a fun set. The harmonies are tight, the potential for some loud guitar action is there – and with a few thousand of their closest Canadian friends in the audience we have a feeling that they’re going to be excited.

Shut me up by showing up/ With strawberry stuff on your lips you know I like so much/ Just a little kiss will do the trick/ Give me something else to do with my lips…

Dylan Scott

Dylan Scott Lay It On MeWe’ve said a lot about Dylan Scott already (Boots & Hearts Preview: Dylan Scott Q&A and 7 Reasons to Fall in Love with Dylan Scott). We’re fans and we’re ready for more.

We know that Dylan’s set is going to include Lay It On Me, Makin’ This Boy Go Crazy, Mmm, Mmm, Mmm, as well as covers of Keith Whitley’s When You Say Nothing At All and maybe even Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud since it was so huge on Facebook, YouTube and iTunes.

It is also pretty safe to say that Dylan Scott is going to bring a ton of Southern Boy Charm with him when he comes to Burl’s Creek. And we can’t wait.

Lennon & Maisy

Lennon and MaisyWe really have no idea what we’re going to get from Lennon & Maisy and Boots & Hearts. They could have their own set. They could pop up on stage with their mom and dad (The Stellas). But either way I’m guessing that we’re going to see them on the main stage. There’s too much recognition thanks to ABC’s Nashville.

If we do see the girls take the stage on their own we’re hoping that we get to see covers like Ho Hey, Boom Clap and maybe even Call Your Girlfriend. And with the release of the girls’ new book, we’re expecting to hear In The Waves as well. Oh, and if we don’t hear A Life That’s Good, we’ll be sad.

No matter what happens we know that the crowd is going to pop for Lennon & Maisy, and we can’t wait to see their faces and hear their voices when that happens!

Work Hard. Play Harder. Be Awesome!
