Ripcord: Keith Urban at Boots & Hearts 2017

After weather threatened the headlining entertainment on Friday night at Boots & Hearts 2017, the lightning cleared and Keith Urban took over the main stage, and he killed it!

The guitar slinging Aussie didn’t waste a minute in his set, revving up the energy with Long Hot Summer to start the show, and pushing forward through a series of hits, fan favourites, and guest appearances. And while the thunder and lightning did clear, the crowd, and Urban himself fought through two rain showers during the show… but it didn’t slow anyone down.

He was soaked by the end of his Boots & Hearts debut, but it didn’t matter and it didn’t look like he cared. In the rain and in the clear, Keith Urban showed off his guitar chops, lead call and answer games, invited us all to sing along with him and for him, and entertained the hell out of the tens of thousands of country music fans that rushed back to the stage after their evacuation had been lifted.

“Rain ain’t nothing but a thang” – Keith Urban, Boots & Hearts 2017

Keith Urban was the star of the show on Friday night, but credit should be given to (and was given by the star) to the fans who waited out an evacuation of more than an hour, and stood in the rain during his set – but still sang along as loud as they could, cheered at the top of their lungs, and loved the hell out of the man on stage.

As music fans ourselves, this show and this night were special. The energy level was as high as we’ve ever felt it, and the appreciation for the music when there was a feeling that it may not happen at all, was at an all time high.

Big love has to also go out to Keith Urban’s band who pushed through the weather conditions – and to Dan + Shay and Brooke Eden who did great jobs in their guest spots on stage. There were no slips in the performance, sound, or talent in this show. It was tight, top notch, and everything that we could have hoped for… regardless of the weather.

Keith Urban was worth the wait, and the wetness. He was charming, emotional, energetic, and willing to do everything he could to entertain his fans. He gave away a guitar, put on a shirt and hat that were thrown to him from the crowd, and stood on stage in the rain to play, just like his fans stood in the rain to see him play.

If you love live music, if you love country music, if you love Keith Urban’s music – go see a live show. Even if it’s raining.

Boots & Hearts Preview: Leaving Thomas Q&A

With two singles released to country radio, and a growing number of fans checking out their weekly YouTube videos (which are a whole lot of fun), Leaving Thomas is quickly becoming an act to watch on the Canadian country music scene.

Annika and Bryton have a ton of energy and love for what they do, and that is clear from the jump – and if you haven’t seen them live yet, we highly recommend doing that as soon as possible. We’ll be seeing Leaving Thomas on stage at Boots & Hearts, and to get everyone ready, we got Bryton to answer a few questions in a new Q&A.

Thanks to Bryton for taking the time to play, we can’t wait to see the show!

Q: What three words would you use to describe the feeling of getting up on a big stage in front of a bunch of rowdy country music fans?

Leaving Thomas: Exhilarating, Surreal, Grateful

Q: If you could sing a duet with any of the other Boots & Hearts 2017 artists, who would be at the top of your list?

LT: Keith Urban or a 4 way duet with LT and Dan + Shay would also be a blast!!

Related: Boots & Hearts 2017 Preview: Keith Urban Top 10

Q: What is your favourite thing about the country music fans across Canada?

LT: Their energy! It’s infectious and truly is fuel for us when performing!

Q: Can you tell us something about you that we wouldn’t find in a Google search?

LT: I have a sour candy addiction… I love all the sour candy… Sour Patch Kids, Cherry Blasters, Fuzzy Peaches, Sour Keys, everything! It’s my kryptonite!

Q: What is your number #1 festival tip for the fans?

LT: WATER! Staying hydrated is always important, especially when in the sun all day! (Also have fun!!!)

Friends, if you haven’t seen Leaving Thomas’s brand new video for their single, Best Adventure… press play right here, right now!

Boots & Hearts 2017 Announces Brantley Gilbert, Brett Eldredge and Dan + Shay!

You’ve been waiting, we’ve been waiting, we’ve all tried our best to be patient… and now we have some news!

The Boots & Hearts team has officially announced 3 more artists for the 2017 festival, and we’re pretty darn happy with the additions.

We already knew that Keith Urban and Luke Bryan would be headlining a night each at this year’s festival, and now we can start filling in some more of the blanks on the Thursday to Sunday schedule.

Related→ Boots & Hearts 2017 Preview: Luke Bryan Top 10
Related→ Boots & Hearts 2017 Preview: Keith Urban Top 10

Now, let’s have a look at the 3 of performers that we’ll be seeing on the Front Porch Stage and Main Stage this August at Burl’s Creek!

Headliner: Brantley Gilbert

Brantley has been added as the third headliner of the festival, joining Keith Urban and Luke Bryan – and he’s a good fit!

If you’ve seen BG on stage before you know he brings a ton of energy to the stage and shares it with the crowd. We saw him in Toronto on a weeknight… and it was a damn party.

If you haven’t seen Brantley Gilbert on stage, think Eric Church. He’s got that same “my way” attitude that translates well to a country crowd.

Be ready to hear hits like…

★ Country Must Be Country Wide
★ Kick It In The Sticks
★ Bottoms Up
★ One Hell Of An Amen
★ The Weekend

And more!

Brett Eldredge

Man, this dude is cool. If you’ve followed Brett Eldridge at all since he hit the country music scene you already know that he’s got swag to spare – when he’s hanging out with his mom or his puppy Edgar.

We saw Brett open for Keith Urban at the ACC a few years ago – and as the crowd was filing into the stadium you could see heads bobbing to the beat. And in the year since he has only shown more and more aptitude for entertaining a country music crowd.

Get ready for songs to sing along to like…

★ Don’t Ya
★ Beat Of The Music
★ Lose My Mind
★ Drunk On Your Love
★ Wanna Be That Song

Dan + Shay

We saw Dan + Shay at Boots & Hearts back in 2014 – and can’t wait to see what they have to bring to the table this time around.

The boys elicited about as many screams from the crowd as anyone ever has at BH, and we’d be surprised if they didn’t do the same again this August. With energy to spare, harmonies and ring true – and more music to share than they had three years ago, Dan + Shay is another great add to the lineup.

Get ready to dance and sing and sway to songs like…

★ 19 You + Me
★ Show You Off
★ Nothin’ Like You
★ From The Ground Up
★ How Not To

Stay tuned because there are a lot more names to be added to the Boots & Hearts 2017 lineup – and we’ll be here to share them with you and give some preview action as we get closer and closer to August and the biggest country music festival in Ontario!

Boots & Hearts 2014 Wrap and 2015 Predictions

Boots and Hearts 2014 Night Crowd 1It’s been 2 weeks since we stood with 30,000+ country music fans at Boots & Hearts 2014 – and we’re still thinking about it.

From Thursday night’s start with The Reklaws, Natalie Stovall & The Drive, Brett Kissel, and Dallas Smith to Saturday and Sunday night’s headliners Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton the music was hot, the crowd was into it and everyone had a great time!

We would love to thank Republic Live, the Boots & Hearts staff, volunteers, security and all of the vendors for helping us have an awesome time and making us want to come back again in 2015.

The Reklaws Boots and Hearts 2014We also want to thank Brett Kissel, The Reklaws, and Trinity Bradshaw for being awesome off stage when we chatted and laughed and took pictures together. It was a great addition to covering the music and we appreciate it.

I’ve been at Boots & Hearts each of the first 3 years, and I can safely tell you that 2014 was the biggest, loudest, most electric atmosphere yet. We had performances from newcomers and legends and artists that are littering the charts with their hits right now. And all of them gave their fans awesome sets.

Highlights

I had no idea Dan + Shay were going to be as HUGE as they were at Boots & Hearts. When they came onto the Front Porch stage it was packed with young fans (mostly young ladies who were very vocal in their support) who knew every word to every song those 2 dudes sang. It was a pretty great surprise for me as a fan of live music.

TheReviewsAreIn Trinity Bradshaw Interview Boots and Hearts 2014Trinity Bradshaw – SiriusXM Emerging Artist Showcase Winner! We had the chance to meet Trinity backstage and do a little interview and get to know you session after her Saturday performance in the Emerging Artist Showcase contest – and we pretty much fell in love with her instantly. Not only does she have a killer voice and stage presence, and forget the fact that she’s gorgeous, Trinity was funny and at ease and lovely to talk to about her career, the music she loves and even her Canadian country music crush.

Tim Hicks x 2. Trish is a big Tim Hicks fan and getting a chance to see him and shoot him on stage twice on Saturday was a great treat. The acoustic set he played at his album release party was a fun way to start the day, and Tim did not disappoint when he took his turn on the main stage later in the afternoon.

Luke Bryan Boots and Hearts 2014 Saturday NightThe Headliners. Truth: We skipped out on Toby Keith because of the weather situation on Friday night – but the combination of Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton on Saturday and Sunday totally made up for it. If you get a chance to see either or both of these dudes in a big concert setting where they can put on a show like they did in Bowmanville, take it.

Lowlights

Friday night’s weather was a bummer and really severe with the wind and rain and hail. And while it’s true that it rains every year at Boots & Hearts, this year was heavier than the others. Here’s hoping that 2015 breaks the trend.

Thanks to the weather we lost out on seeing The Road Hammers in 2014. That sucked.

2015 Predictions

If I had to guess about any 2014 acts returning to Bowmanville in 2015 I would choose The Road Hammers and Tim Hicks.

The Road Hammers become an easy choice because of their washout this year. I don’t know if they’ll be able to fit Boots & Hearts into their schedule next August – but it would sure be cool if they did.

Tim Hicks Boots and Hearts 2014 SaturdayTim Hicks has been at Boots & Hearts all three years that the festival has been running. He finished 2nd in the 2012 Emerging Artist Showcase, came back in 2013 to play at the Kick Off Party, and has now graduated to the Main Stage. When he says that he looks forward to Boots & Hearts all year, I believe him. And it’s hard to imagine the festival without him.

A couple days before this year’s festival I made predictions for the 2015 headliner announcement – but then we didn’t get an announcement. However, the predictions are still pretty solid in my mind.

Lady Antebellum: With a brand new album, 747, coming at the end of September it’s fair to think that Lady A will be touring for a while to support it. And a crowd pushing 40,000 strong has to be a tempting audience to pitch an album to.

Keith Urban: Mr. Urban is a superstar, and in 2014 he added the Calgary Stampede to his list of the big shows he’s got under his belt. It’s not unreasonable to think that the Aussie would make an appearance in Bowmanville on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night. Plus, I know he puts on a great show and would be a big ticket seller.

Eric Church: When I was making predictions for 2014 I had a choice to make – Eric Church or Luke Bryan. I chose Luke Bryan and I was right. So it makes sense that I would add Eric Church and his new brand of outlaw country music to my list of 2015 predictions.

It would also be easy to predict that there will be a bigger crowd at Boots & Hearts 2015. The only. only thing working against it is the fact that August 6-9, 2015 isn’t the long weekend. However, this festival is gaining momentum – and as announced after this year’s weekend wrapped up, has now become Canada’s largest camping and music festival. It’s hard to argue against those kinds of facts.

Final Word

Boots & Hearts continues to be one of the highlights of my summer – and I can’t wait for the 2015 festival lineup to be announced piece by piece.

Stay tuned for more predictions and coverage of Boots & Hearts announcements as we get count down the next 11.5 months.

Is It Friday Yet? Gord Bamford, Neal McCoy and Dan + Shay at Boots & Hearts 2014

Gord Bamford Main Stage Boots and Hearts 2014On Sunday afternoon in Bowmanville, Gord Bamford took to the stage just ahead of young star Hunter Hayes and did exactly what we expected him to do – entertain a great crowd of country music fans.

Bamford has had a great last few years, winning 6 Canadian Country Music Association Awards, and is nominated for 4 more statues this year in Edmonton. His #1 single, When Your Lips Are So Close was a highlight of his Boots & Hearts set – and could very well bring him home the Single of the Year and Songwriter of the Year awards this fall.

Bamford has also had the chance to play with some of country’s biggest acts including Tim McGraw, Kenny Rogers and Reba.

Gord Bamford is as Canadian as country music gets, an every man with a great hat, a guitar, a pure country voice and songs that can make fans dance or want to pull someone close and look deep in their eyes.

He did both of those things Sunday including hits Postcard from Pasadena , Farm Girl Strong, Is It Friday Yet?, Day Job, Drinking Buddy, Unreal, and more.

Congrats to Gord on all of his success so far, for putting on a great Sunday set and good luck at the CCMAs.

Check out more pictures of Gord Bamford on Trish’s blog HERE!

Neal McCoy Main Stage Boots and Hearts 2014Earlier on Sunday a true country music legend took over the stage with the energy of a man half his age.

Neal McCoy has been playing country music for more than 30 years, first touring with certified country legend and pioneer, Charlie Pride. And when I was a kid in the 90s it was nearly impossible to listen to country radio without hearing McCoy’s songs – and singing along to them.

So it was extra special for me to hear The City Put The Country Back In Me, The Shake, and Neal McCoy’s very first #1 hit, No Doubt About It.

It was also cool to hear the band and McCoy put together a cover of The Beetles: Come Together. I did not expect that at all, and even when I heard the band start the music I thought they were just playing around.

33 years after Charlie Pride took him on the road, the 56 year old McCoy still takes the stage with a great energy, a sharp sense of humor (making fun of a fan for wearing a Luke Bryan t-shirt to a Neal McCoy show, explaining a mash-up to the “old people” in the crowd), and a smile on his face that makes you believe that he still very much loves to play country music for a living.

I’m a happy boy to have seen Mr. McCoy live, adding him to a list with Alabama, Joe Diffie, Phil Vassar, and Sawyer Brown in my 3 years at Boots & Hearts.

Dan + Shay Singing Boots and Hearts 2014Also on Sunday, at the SiriusXM Front Porch Stage, was a loud (screaming), energetic (jumping), and excited (swooning) crowd for hot hot hot country duo Dan + Shay.

Those boys may be new to country audiences, they are not without a dedicated following. The girls in the crowd may very well have been louder for Dan + Shay than they were for Hunter Hayes, Luke Bryan or anyone else that played at Boots & Hearts 2014.

Note: After putting on a great set of her own on the main stage, Danielle Bradbery was side stage to take in the Dan + Shay show. She was totally into it, singing and dancing along.

Those same fans also love the music, singing along, and singing loud to the boys’ 2 biggest hits, Somewhere Only We Know and 19 You + Me – it was a cool moment to witness, and one of my favourite things in the world to see – I’m sure that Misters Smyers and Mooney felt the same way.

Do not be surprised if there are more hit singles to come from these 2… I won’t be.

Check out more pictures of Dan + Shay on Trish’s blog HERE!

Boots & Hearts 2014 – It’s Here!

Boots and Hearts 2014 Coors Banquet Kick Off PartyAfter 12 months of waiting, wishing, making predictions and previews – Boots & Hearts 2014 is here!

At 6pm today the music starts with The Reklaws at the Coors Banquet Kick Off Party on the SiriusXM stage. Natalie Stovall & The Drive, Brett Kissel, and Dallas Smith are also on the schedule tonight and I have no doubt that they will all put on great sets to get B&H started for the 3rd year.

Yesterday someone asked me who I’m excited to see at the festival and I had trouble keeping my list short-ish and not just naming everyone.

I admit that I’m hyped to see headliners Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton.

I’ve seen Paul Brandt at Boots & Hearts before, but I’m looking forward to seeing him again.

I can’t wait to see some of the new acts like Jess Moskaluke, Trinity Bradshaw, Runaway Angel, Sam Hunt, and Dan + Shay.

It will be awesome to see Sawyer Brown and Neal McCoy who had many hits on country radio when I was a kid.

Boots & Hearts is becoming the highlight of the summer for a lot of country music fans in Ontario. And the bigger it gets, the better it gets, the more exciting it gets – the happier I am. This festival is turning into a must see and the privilege to attend as media and bring reviews and photos and interviews back to you guys makes me happy for sure.

So thank you to the people at Republic Live, Boots & Hearts, the readers here and everyone else who has made this content possible… I’m a lucky boy and can’t wait to get to Bowmanville for 4 days of good times and great music!

Stay tuned for reviews, photos and interviews all weekend from Boots & Hearts!

Have a great day folks. And if you’re off tomorrow, enjoy!
